Limited Travel Insurance | Travel Tips & Trip Ideas Forum | Fodor's ...

I am looking for a travel insurance police that ONLY covers my airfare and apartment rental. I do not need nor do I want, medical, lost baggage and all the other stuff that most companies offer. I already know about insuremytrip.com, and all the companies on thier site sell packages, not what I want. i know I might be out of luck, but it's worth a try.

Mobile and...anthropology?

In this increasingly mobile world, it’s important for marketers to understand what consumers are doing on their mobile devices.  We recently took a close look at this question in a number of different research studies - Our Mobile Planet, The New Multi-Screen World, What Users Want From Mobile Sites Today.  But as we talked with marketers and agencies, especially creative agency folks, we realized there was another important question to answer: why is the mobile space so powerful at a deeper, more emotional level?  And how are people finding and making meaning there?  These are important questions because it’s hard to tell emotionally resonant stories about brands on mobile unless we understand the resonance of the mobile space itself.

So what is the meaning of mobile?  That’s a big and complex question, but to start scratching the surface we sought the help of an anthropologist who went into the homes of mobile users and spoke with them at length, observing their device interactions and asking them to keep “mobile diaries” to understand the role mobile is playing in their lives.  From this investigation, we gained some valuable insights that we hope will help strategic planners and creatives better understand how to make use of the mobile space.  For example: Have you ever thought about how miniature items tend to possess the power to unlock imaginations, and how this dynamic plays out with the smallness of our phones?  Or how our smartphones enable us to indulge in our innate desire to “read” and “write” meanings onto our physical surroundings?  (We hadn’t either.)

We’ve shared our findings with strategic planners and marketers at Cannes, Advertising Week, and at a handful of creative agencies.  Today, we are excited to share our insights with you through a new whitepaper that tells the story of what we found -- how mobile is helping us achieve our self-ideals, co-create culture with our communities, and make sense of the physical world around us.

We invite you to put on your anthropologist's hat and to think about mobile in a new and different way.  Perhaps some of the findings will inspire you to think about the ways that you can connect with your customers in the mobile space.  We’d love for you to join the dialogue and share your thoughts.

A sea of words | MetaFilter

Six years ago, New Dorp High School on Staten Island, NY, had a 40% dropout rate, and more than 80% of freshmen were reading below grade level. In spring 2013, the school expects an 80% graduation rate. What happened? New Dorp decided to teach its students how to write.
Principal Deirdre DeAngelis and her faculty discovered that their students often lacked the ability to understand or use conjunctions, dependent clauses, and other grammatical constructs. They also did not understand how to explain their ideas or persuade others. The problem was exacerbated by No Child Left Behind's focus on testing and the resulting effects on writing instruction. DeAngelis brought in Judith Hochman to guide faculty as they incorporated the analytical writing skills needed to meet Common Core State Standards, which will be implemented in 46 US states over the next two years. posted by catlet (74 comments total) 24 users marked this as a favorite

Colombian president says to have prostate cancer surgery

BOGOTA (Reuters) - Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said on Monday that he would undergo surgery for non-aggressive prostate cancer and that the tumor was caught "in time".

"It's a small tumor located on the prostate gland and it's a good prognosis, it's not aggressive," he said in an address to the nation.

Mosaic Artist Creates New Art Out of Broken China

? cleo mussi

Cleo Mussi's playful and humorous objects are all made out of broken bits of china and porcelain. Found in charity shops, auction houses and factories, she uses the pieces to create something new out of the old.

Mosaics are magical because from a distance they look like solid objects but up close you see the incredible detail that comes from the hundreds of tiny pieces of china that have been painstakingly glued together.

The fragments from old china and broken tea pot handles and smashed plates all have a history and resonance. When made into a new object, suddenly the flowers and figures and bridges and pagodas form something bigger and more complex than the individual pieces.

These hands are part of an alphabet series called A-Z Hand Book. She created one object for each letter; each tells a story. The W stands for Waste Not:

"Wasted words spent
selling unnecessary
lifestyles to the
ungrateful Wasted
youth wasted words
wasted life Worried
youth wistful words
working life Welcome
youth wise words
wonderful life."

The mix of old and new make the work so interesting. As she says

"I like the fact that within the work you have the whole of our ceramic history. There are bits made here, pieces from China, references to travel and commerce and bringing back fashionable influences and then all that knowledge of how to make glazes and patterns and how to cast things, most of which is now lost? there?s so much information in each piece."

Recently Cleo Mussi had a show in London , with her textile artist partner and was inspired by their tour of Japan.
